Continuing to improve...

Neil's condition is stable and continuing to improve. He is gradually being weaned off most of the medications that he has been on the last several days. He is awake and alert and is watching CNN news out of boredom. He still needs surgery to repair his collapsed lung, but the doctors are waiting for overall improvement of his condition before they proceed. Please continue to pray for healing.

Just to catch you up...

On Tuesday afternoon, November 7, Neil was driving SB on Main when a minivan driving the opposite direction drifted into oncoming traffic and hit Neil head on. The passengers in the minivan were a man, a woman and their 5 year old son. The woman died at the scene. Neil was taken to St. John's Medical Center where he suffered a broken nose, a broken plate in his sinus, a gash under his chin, two broken arms, broken ribs and a collapsed lung, multiple fractures in both legs, a broken T7 vertebra and a stretched spinal cord. That evening he underwent 11 hours of surgery to fix the most critical injuries and to stabilize him. He is currently on a ventilator, though he is awake and alert. He was having trouble with his blood pressure being too low, so he was put on medications to bring up his pressure, and now he is on all but one of those medications. He was put on antibiotics to stave off any infections that may occur, especially since the cracked sinus plate is leaking air into his cranium. On Friday, November 10, Neil underwent surgery to fix his broken ams. Neil is able to recognize people and understands what is happening, and he is able to squeeze your hand and smile a little. He has surprised the doctors by how well he is doing, despite all of his injuries -- praise the Lord! He's also rather bored, so please keep those visits coming!
